Steve received his accounting degree from the University of Texas in May 1970 and certified in May, 1973. While at the University, he worked part-time with a local firm in Austin and, upon graduation, continued there on a full-time basis. The firm was later bought out by a national firm. Steve began working for another Austin accounting firm in 1971 and made partner the following year when the firm opened a Round Rock office. Since 1978, he has been a partner of Pena Swayze & Co., L.L.P., which merged with Maxwell Locke & Ritter in 2011. Steve retired from Maxwell Locke & Ritter on December 31, 2015. Steve formed Steve D. Pena, CPA, PLLC in January 2016, which concentrates solely on litigation support services.
